This quarter was a bittersweet one for our Chapter. Unfortunately, we lost one of our dear members, MJ Jones, to breast cancer after a courageous 4 ½ year battle. We were also saddened to lose Gwen Smith's father. We send our sincere condolences to both families.
On June 11th, our Chapter hosted its second annual " Healthy Steps - Fund to Run" 5K Run, two-mile walk and children's fun run. Although it rained briefly, the weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our runners. In fact, by the start of the race, the weather had improved. We were delighted to welcome Dick Johnson, an anchor at NBC5 in Chicago. As many of you know, Channel 5 is IWS’ centennial broadcast partner, and we were pleased he was able to join us to energize our runners and to serve as our Master of Ceremonies. Also on hand was Edna Madonia from Loyola Health and Fitness. She directed our runners in their warm-ups, instructing them on those all-important pre-race stretches and getting them ready for the run. Our first place finishers were Melanie Stubbe at 26:45 and Salvatore Flight at 19:43. As always, the children's fun run was such fun for the kids.
We were very happy with our attendance this year, and we wish to thank all our sponsors and friends. It was a very successful event! In closing, our Chapter hopes many of you will be able to join us next year at the Riverside Chapter’s "Healthy Steps - Fund to Run" on May 19th.
Enjoy your summers, ladies!
Race winners were Salvatore Flight (19:43)
