CLINIC FLOOD UPDATE  »

IWS CLINIC FLOOD RELIEF ONLINE DONATION »

The skies were blue, the temperatures were warm and the ponies were saddled up and ready for their very eager riders at our Reading Round-up on June 20th. This is the third year the Auxiliary has hosted its popular

western-themed literacy event, and it attracted about 250 children and their parents.

Cindy Farkos, Julie Lawton and Suzy Moore of our Flossmoor Juniors Chapter chaired the event once again, and they did an outstanding job. There are many people who supported the event. First, we want to acknowledge our donors. McGraw Hill donated books for the Round-up, as did the Department of Natural Resources. Members of the Flossmoor Juniors Chapter contributed many books as well. We were also pleased

to receive a very generous monetary donation from Bonnie’s Book Foundation. Marcia Cook, the author of a children’s book entitled The Busy Bus also donated copies of that title as well as two others she has written.

Another special friend is Terryl DeBruin, a teacher who recently retired from the Flossmoor School District. Terryl heard about the Reading Round-up, and she donated all of the books from her classroom. She taught in the district for over 30 years, and she says she felt a special tie to the Clinic as her mother had grown up in the Logan Square area. We know how thrilled our young patients were to receive the books she donated, and we thank her for her contribution, and we wish her a very happy retirement.

Thanks to all of these generous donors, we had a great variety of titles for the children to peruse as they made their choices. All of them selected about half a dozen books to enjoy for their leisure reading. And of course, that’s our most important goal – to foster a love of reading in our young patients.
