a legacy of caring
The Lake Forest Showhouse opened the doors of Thorndale Manor to the public on Saturday, April 30th after hosting the Chapter's traditional Preview Party the preceding evening. More than 650 guests strolled the grounds and interiors of the Manor and Coach Houses while enjoying cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and lively music. Not even the cold spring weather could dampen a record turn-out of Lake Foresters, designers, and hundreds of other guests from the Merchandise Mart and North Shore suburbs.
The Showhouse was also host to the IWS Celebrate the Children Centennial "Angel Award" Dinner. Over 270 guests attended this spectacular event that grossed $195,000 for the Clinic. Highlights of the evening included a Tiffany-sponsored raffle that featured 250 of those legendary blue boxes donated by our generous sponsor. Each guest purchasing a Tiffany box received an exquisite votive, and lucky winners unwrapped a winning ticket for a handbag from Tiffany's new line. The Mistress of Ceremonies, Monica Pedersen, was a wonderful ambassador for the evening's program which included the presentation of the Angel Award to Abbott/Abbott Fund and Sidley Austin LLP. She also officiated at a very successful “Raise the Paddle for IWS” in which guests were invited to donate money to the Clinic for specific services and programs.
Other highlights of the three-week Showhouse included a morning lecture by Charlotte Moss and a "Colour in the Home” workshop by Farrow & Ball, the paint sponsor of the Showhouse. Forty-three interior and landscape designers transformed this historical Lake Forest estate into a spectacular venue befitting the Clinic's centennial milestone.
Our Chapter is thrilled that the Showhouse & Gardens was a great success, and we thank all those who supported us in raising money for this wonderful cause!
