INFANT WELFARE SOCIETY OF CHICAGO

AUXILIARY

Supporting a tradition of visionary care since 1913

At the 2010 Infant Welfare Society’s Annual Meeting on October 28th, it was announced that the Auxiliary has been named the recipient of its “Champion for Children” award. In her comments, Board President Kate Boege (a past Auxiliary President) noted that for all but two years of its 100-year history, the Auxiliary has supported the Clinic with significant financial contributions and a dedicated corps of women volunteering their time and service to the organization.

She said the Auxiliary’s hard work, dedication and loyalty to the Infant Welfare Society are impressive, and she added that the organization’s total contributions to IWS since its formation in 1913 are in the tens of millions of dollars. For most of IWS’ history, the Auxiliary has been its largest single donor. Beyond that, the Auxiliary’s volunteer commitment is remarkable. Kate said, “During my years as Auxiliary President, I had a great opportunity to see how much our Chapters do to support the Clinic. The time and effort our members devote to their individual Chapter events is amazing, and I’m delighted the Auxiliary is receiving this well deserved award.”

Accepting the award, Auxiliary President Rosanne Merrill thanked the Board of Directors and the Infant Welfare Society. She said that the Auxiliary is honored to be a partner in their mission. She referenced the thousands of Auxiliary members over the past century who share the credit for the huge contributions made to the Infant Welfare cause. She further noted that Auxiliary members have from the beginning been women of substance, not only leaders in their own communities but also going beyond that. Sharing a desire to see all children have a healthy start in life and grow into healthy, productive members of society, they have partnered with the dedicated care providers of Infant Welfare, giving their time, talent and treasure to make that goal become a reality for many generations of children.

Dr. John Wilhelm noted that IWS is the envy of so many charities in Chicago and beyond because of its Auxiliary. “This organization has supported IWS in so many ways. Obviously, its financial contributions have been astounding. But beyond that, the Auxiliary’s commitment is extraordinary. During my five years as Executive Director, I’ve had the opportunity to attend many Chapters benefits, and I’m always impressed with what I see. It’s apparent how hard the Auxiliary members work on behalf of the Clinic, and I’m pleased that their efforts are being recognized with our “Champion for Children” award.”

We want to take this opportunity to thank the Clinic and the Board of Directors for this wonderful recognition. And although we may be a bit biased on the subject, we agree that our members’ volunteer commitment to the Infant Welfare Society is exemplary. We congratulate all our members who have proven themselves to be true “Champions for Children.”
